Fighting robo-debt collections agents

Americans seeking debt relief are increasingly being warned against so-called "robo-collectors," banks who are attempting to recover funds using the same robo-signing techniques employed by the foreclosure companies who faced sanctions earlier this year. The firms, which include American Express and Citigroup, are accused of filing erroneous lawsuits against thousands of borrowers.

Olympian Douglas's mom filed for bankruptcy

Court records indicate that Natalie Hawkins, the mother of the talented Olympic gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year in Virginia court. The news comes on the heels of media reports that Olympian Ryan Lochte's parents are facing foreclosure on their Florida home.

Women face higher health cost burden

As total American debt continues to rise, a new report shows that women are at a higher risk for accruing large levels of medical debt. A growing problem that politicians in Washington, D.C., can't continue to avoid, the report indicated that more women were facing personal bankruptcy because of their medical bills compared to men. In addition, American women fare worse than female populations in other countries.
