What should you bring to your bankruptcy hearing?

As a resident of Washington D.C. who is having a bankruptcy hearing, you should be prepared and on top of all the things you might need. We here at Ammerman and Goldberg are here to lay those items out for you.

While the things you need might differ slightly from case to case, there are a few things that will always be required. This includes several pieces of personal documentation, including your social security card, a state-issued photo identification card, and the court notice.

Other documents will likely already be in the possession of your attorney by the time the court hearing occurs. This includes all information about your income including the source, frequence and amount of it. Your living expenses broken down on a monthly basis must also be provided. Additionally, they will require a list of all of your properties, along with the creditors and the amount of their claims, as well as where the claims stemmed from.

Everything should be as detailed as possible. When in doubt, err on the side of providing more information. Try not to leave anything out, as this may come across poorly if left out information is discovered during the hearing.

The court hearing itself will always go more smoothly if you have everything you need at the start, and have it all organized nicely.
